Potter fans forced to sleep in the street

Die-hard Harry Potter fans, who have started camping out in London’s Trafalgar Square a full three days before the world premiere, were shocked to discover they would no longer be allowed pitch tents.

Speaking to Yahoo! Movies Potter fan Hannah from Bournemouth, who has been at ‘Camp Potter’ since Monday, explained how although they were initially allowed tents, they have now been told they can’t use them. With no cover from the elements it seems the unofficial attendees will have to sleep on the streets.

“I’m really tired and we are going to have to just cope with our sleeping bags and it’s supposed to rain tonight so it’s going to get wet,” she explained.

“Last night it was fine, but tonight I’m not sure”.

The enthusiastic film fanatics began their long wait on Monday for the 7 July event and seemed only too happy to spend three nights sleeping rough in order to catch a glimpse of the stars. Top of the fans’ signature list is JK Rowling, the woman behind the popular books.

Hannah then went on to speak of how diverse the (un)happy campers were, explaining “there are people from all over the world here”.

“When we first arrived there weren’t that many British people here, but there were fans from Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria and the Netherlands. Literally from everywhere, it’s just so international. It’s crazy”.

It seems that the Potter devotees will have a good chance, as the red carpet will apparently be set up as a 10-minute walk through the film’s famous Diagon Alley.
But even with such vast perimeter mileage, those that want to get a good look at the colossal carpet will have to pitch up early as it is a hugely anticipated event.

With a tiny number of tout tickets going on sale for up to £800 on some websites, it shows just how prestigious this week’s premiere will be.

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ is due to be released in the UK on 15 July and will bring the epic eight-part series based on JK Rowling’s hugely popular books to an end.

Wild flamingo chase shuts airport runway

A single, rogue pink flamingo managed to shut down an entire airport runway in the UK this week.

Officials had no choice but to close one of Manchester Airport’s two runways early Monday morning as workers attempted to catch the stray flamingo, nicknamed Ringo.

It is unclear where the mystery bird came from, as no wildlife sanctuaries in the area have reported a missing bird.

“In over 20 years at the airport this is without doubt one of the most unusual things I’ve seen land here,” said Tim McDermott, Manchester Airport’s operations director.

Ringo was first seen on Sunday night roaming the airport’s Runway 2. Wildlife control teams followed the bird’s every move using special night vision equipment.

They initially managed to frighten it from the airfield using a 4x4 vehicle blasting loud music and setting off flares.

But to the dismay of airport staff, the bird returned at 8am the following day, seeing the wild flamingo chase begin again using the same bird-scaring tactics. Ringo finally flew away around 12.30pm.

One passenger tweeted on 4 July: “Delayed at Manchester Airport due to a flamingo on the runway...”

A spokesman from the country’s third-busiest airport confirmed yesterday morning’s chaos with Yahoo! News.

However, the airport said the ordeal did not cause any delays, cancellations or disruptions to passengers.

“Birds are, unfortunately a hazard within an airport environment, so I’m pleased we were able to persuade the bird to leave the airfield quickly,” Manchester Airport’s McDermott said in a statement.

It’s not the first odd airport invasion to close a runway, just last week New York’s JFK Airport had to stop traffic on a runway for 15 minutes as migrating turtles crossed the tarmac.

Range Rover Evoque production begins - but it's already sold out

The first Evoque - the new baby Range Rover - rolled off Land Rover's production lines at the company's Halewood factory in Merseyside yesterday (July 4) - but the first year's allocation has already been sold.
A total of 18,000 advance orders have been placed for the trendy new SUV worldwide.
Range Rover Evoque production begins - but it's already sold out
This follows £2 billion of investment by Land Rover and an extensive publicity campaign that included an initial unveiling by Victoria Beckham last July. The former Spice Girl also designed a set of bespoke interiors for the car.
The first Evoque, a white, five-door model in Dynamic trim, will be donated to the Heritage Motor Museum near Land Rover's base in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
The Evoque also represents a big boost for the economy, as 1,500 new workers have been taken on at the Halewood plant. The baby Range Rover will be built alongside Land Rover's existing Freelander.
Prices start at £27,995 for the two-wheel drive Evoque, with a diesel engine and a manual gearbox. That model promises in excess of 50mpg, too.
Order books have been open for some time and, though the Evoque is destined to appear in UK showrooms in September, you can expect a lengthy waiting list.

The Only Backdoor Left To Sneak Your Facebook Friends Into Google+ Is Yahoo

Mark Zuckerberg may be themost followed user on Google+, but good luck trying to find any of your Facebook friends on Google’s new social service. Facebook is making it difficult for anyone to import their friend contact information into Google+. There is no direct contact import feature such as there is for Yahoo or Hotmail, and Facebook is clamping down on third-party services that made it easy to bring your Facebook friends into Google+.
Over the weekend, Facebook blocked a Google Chrome extension called the Facebook Friend Exporter. And in fact, Facebook changed its OAuth 2.0 API in such a way that it “suddenly removed email addresses from the queries without warning,” says Owen Mundy, creator of Give Me My Data. Other data can still be exported, just not your friends’ email addresses.
There still might be one back door open to sneak your Facebook friends into Google+. And that’s Yahoo. You can import your Facebook friends’ contact information, including emails, just fine into Yahoo. (First, you link your Facebook and Yahoo accounts, and then you import your contacts from Yahoo Mail).
I say “might” because I just tried it, and the Yahoo importer in Google+ didn’t even work for me in Chrome. But it did seem to work in Firefox (irony alert). Still, I couldn’t tell if it had actually imported my Facebook friends who are also on Google+ because most of those are also duplicated in my Gmail contacts. Other Facebook friends do not show up in Google+ (although their email addresses imported just fine into Yahoo).
While we’ve seen Facebook play these tricks before because they don’t want to help jumpstart competing services, I don’t really think it’s that big a deal. In this case, your email contacts alone (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail) should be enough to get anyone going on Google+. Your real friends are in both Facebook and Gmail, not to mention your other more occasional contacts, which you can start placing in different circles.
Although Facebook’s shenanigans aren’t good from the point of view of data portability, on the whole I think this is actually a good thing for Google+. If it were too easy to import your Facebook friends, then Google+ would simply become a Facebook clone, replicating your Facebook experience. By forcing you to create a new social graph from the ground up, Google+ has a greater chance of becoming distinct.

Jennifer Aniston is turning love into a full-time job!
"Jen's taking a year off from work to enjoy herself," an Aniston insider tells the current issue of Us Weekly (out now).
Indeed, a second source familiar with her schedule confirms that after Horrible Bosses and the October release of Wanderlust, the only thing on her plate is developing The Goree Girls, her production company's years-old project about singers in a women's prison.
And guess who she's picked to juice up the script? "She wants to collaborate with [Justin Theroux]," a source says of Aniston's latest beau, who won screenwriter cred withTropic Thunder and Iron Man 2.
"She's impressed by his ability to find humor in dry material," the source tells Us.
