Dedication: 357 women donned bikinis on Australia's Gold Coast to set a new world record
The Guinness Book of Records may have had its knockers over the years.
But few attempts to grace its pages have been so eagerly anticipated or well attended as this 357-strong Bikini parade at Surfers Paradise on Australia's Gold Coast.
The event, sponsored by the Surfers Paradise Alliance and the Gold Coast Bulletin, needed to attract 332 bodies to beat the previous record for the longest bikini parade set on the Cayman Islands last year.
Challenge: The event needed to attract at least 332 bikini-wearers to smash the previous record set in the Cayman Islands last year
And the tough job of checking the contestants were wearing the correct swimwear fell to Australian Guinness World Record adjudicator Chris Sheedy.
He said: 'Today 361 girls walked through the counter but there had to be a few disqualifications because they were not wearing bikinis.
'Unfortunately for the Cayman Islands they have had their record smashed because 357 walked through the count today.'
Not hard two-piece together: A total of 361
girls walked past the counting gate but four had to be disqualified for
not wearing bikinis
We did it! A jubilant woman points up at the
counter showing the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the
longest bikini parade was a success
Pride: Guinness World Records adjudicator Chris Sheedy holds the official certificate
