A parking space near Harrods department store in London has sold for a staggering £200,000 - making it the most expensive in the UK. It's enough to buy a brand new Ferrari 458 Italia.
However, it could actually prove to be the best value parking space in the UK as well. That's because it has a 90-year leasehold attached to it, which means it could end up costing its owner just 33p per hour.
That's unlikely, of course, but it represents a tenth of the hourly rate of the average space in Knightsbridge today.
The anonymous owner is known to live within 400 yards of the Basil Street plot because that was one of the terms of the sale.
He will pay a £710 per year annual maintenance fee, but will be able to park his no doubt expensive motor in a fully secure space in one of the UK's most prestigious addresses.
The £200,000 buying price is around £16,000 more than was paid for a space in Back Bay, Boston, USA.
Harrods Estates Asset Management, the company that sold the London plot, says that the space is big enough to accommodate one large car or two small ones - in which case it will be twice as good value.
