On average we lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day that will naturally be replaced by new growth but as we age, this growth rate slows.
Male baldness, which is hereditary, usually occurs in middle-aged men but can also happen earlier.
Footballer Wayne Rooney expressed his delight at the results of his hair transplant and posted a picture on his Twitter page last week to confirm his surgery. But he is not the only public figure to take action against hair loss.
Wayne Rooney
At 25, he is one of the youngest celebs to have undergone follicle treatment. Commenting on his developing new look Rooney tweeted, ‘It's still a bit bruised and swollen when it dies down u will be first to see it. Anyone recommend any good hair gel. Haha.’
We can’t wait to see the end results.

Elton John
At the height of his career, Elton John was a wild child but also a little thin on top. After extensive hair treatment he transformed his hairline, regaining a full head of hair. Elton’s transplant is an effective example of how well hair plugs can work. Considering experts believe the earlier the procedure is done the more likely the hair will revert, Elton has defied the odds.
James Nesbitt
After appearing at a charity gala event last year with more hair than normal, there was plenty of speculation that James Nesbitt had undergone another transplant to gain a fuller head of hair. The 45-year-old actor had previously tackled his hair loss problem in 2009 and admitted to having had more work done in late 2010.
In a video testimonial for the Hair Restoration Blackrock (HRBR) clinic James spoke openly about his hair loss struggle, “I’m an actor so I’m in the public eye a lot and I really felt that my hair loss could affect my career prospects.”

Gordon Ramsay
Dr Antonio Armani, a hair transplant guru is believed to have performed the radical treatment, called ‘follicular unit extraction’ that requires no stitches and leaves no scars.
Duncan Bannatyne
Shaun Williamson
Shaun then moved into acting in pantomimes and after talking with his agents, he felt that a change of image was required.
Jason Gardiner
Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner stole the show at the 2011 finale when he revealed his new hairline. The 39-year-old was so impressed with contestant Laura Hamliton’s 10/10 performance that he took his hat off to compliment her. At the same time the audience was shocked to see a new tuff of hair on the acid tongue judge who was entirely bald at the beginning of the year.
