The fashion at Royal Ascot is a guaranteed spectacle – in particular the hats. See the outlandish designs showcased on the first day of the races.…
Royal Ascot, the most elite race meeting in the world, began its week run yesterday. The English racecourse is celebrating its tri-centenary this year – it was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 – with all of its traditions fully intact.
Wearing a hat to the races became mandatory as it was considered disrespectful not to have one’s head covered in the presence of a monarch.
Yesterday the fashionistas raised the bar, showcasing spectacular sculptural designs amongst the selection of hats on display.

This annual sporting occasion is one of few remaining social events that requires ladies to wear hats - so it’s normal for women to go the extra mile and wear hats that are similar to works of art.
Take a look at the wonderful creations below and see the racegoers and Royal guests who attended the first day at races.
