Bon appétit!
Just prior to jetting off to their next tour stop Saturday,Prince William and Duchess Kate took in an intimate cooking class at the Quebec Tourism and Hotel Institute.
Donning personalized chef's whites for the 40-minute lesson, William, 29, and his bride, also 29, learned to make a variety of dishes, including an herb and cranberry-crusted lamb and a lobster souffle.
During the visit, William kept the kitchen staff laughing -- all while trying to sneak in a few snacks. Pretending to pinch strawberries from a bowl and dipping a spoon into melted chocolate for a taste, the Prince eventually became a bit impatient while waiting for his dishes to cook.
"Is there a time limit?" he asked. "Is it like [BBC TV cooking show] Ready Steady Cook? Do we eat as we go? I'm quite hungry!"
Elsewhere in the kitchen, William's bride seemed more focused. Student teacher Theresa Rindress guided the Duchess through a recipe for an amuse-bouche of foie gras on a toasted brioche roll with apple cider jelly. "I showed her how to hold the knife and position her hand so that she did not cut herself. She was fantastic," Rindress told reporters of her chef-in-training. "She was very competent with the knife."
While some of their items fell flat during the end-of-class tasting, William was able to impress his cooking teacher, Jean-Louis Themistocle with one dish. "This is the best cucumber I have ever seen," the chef beamed after the royal produced an amuse-bouche of goat cheese, baby cucumber and elderberry jam.
Heading to Quebec Sunday, the couple will continue their tour of Canada with an inter-denominational service on board the HMCS Montreal and a visit to La Maison Dauphine. They will also attend the Freedom of the City Ceremony at Quebec's City Hall.
