She played a tough plane-crash survivor trapped in the jungle on the show that made her famous.
And Evangeline Lilly appears to be pretty strong in real life, revealing that she was in labour with her first son for 30 hours after opting for a natural home birth.
The Lost star had her first child, Kahekili, in May, in Hawaii, where she shares a home with her production assistant boyfriend Norman Kali.
The 32-year-old spoke about the birth on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, sporting her tiny post-baby figure in a sexy black jumpsuit.
'I actually skipped the hospital,' she told the host.
'We decided to have the baby at home
because we wanted it to be a natural birth, and it turns out that it was
30 hours of natural.'
'Eight hours of pushing, that’s the part that men don’t understand. Women go, ‘Oh, dear, oh, dear God, eight hours of pushing?’ And the men are like, ‘Okay, eight hours of pushing.’'
The 32-year-old's midwife eventually stepped in.
'After about five hours of pushing, my midwife and my birthing assistant said, ‘You know, we have a few suggestions.
'And I was like "Really? After five hours of pushing you have a few suggestions? You couldn’t have told me five minutes in?".'
Jay asked the actress if Kahekili was likely to have any brothers or sisters any time soon.
She said: 'If I wasn't working right now, I would be trying. I want a brood.
'How many are on a basketball team?'
Evangeline is currently promoting her new film Real Steel, in which she stars alongside Australian hunk Hugh Jackman.
The movie is a boxing drama set in the future which sees humanoid robots doing battle.
'I was supposed to take time off,' she admitted.
'In fact, I was supposed to abandon ship for a while. And then this movie with Hugh Jackman came up and I decided I really, really wanted to work with Hugh Jackman. So I did it.'
The busy mother will next be seen as an elf in the prequel to the Lord of The Rings trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
'I was sitting with my newborn baby, he was about a month old, and [director] Peter Jackson called and said, ‘Would you like to be an elf on The Hobbit? And I said "Yes, I really do. I really do want to do that".
'So I’m sort of strapped in, as it turns out, to four movies now.'
She joked that her son didn't recognise her as she tried to breastfeed him in her trailer on set.
'He screamed his head off, staring up at this strange, pointy-eared, mess of a person that was not his mother.'
'And then that night I was feeding him at home and he was perfectly fine and my partner said to me "You know his internal dialogue right now is 'Mum, you won’t believe what happened to me today".'
