Chris Brown collected five trophies at the BET Awards on Sunday, but in a mid-show error, one of his awards was mistakenly given to his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna.
"And the winner is . . ." presenter Tiffany Green said while squinting at the teleprompter. "Chris Brown?" Before Brown, 22, could claim his win, Green quickly corrected herself. "I'm sorry . . . Rihanna!"
Since Rihanna, 23, was not in attendance, Drake (the featured artist in her "What's My Name" video) accepted on her behalf. "Well, this is awkward," the rapper, 24, told the audience.
The on-air mistakes didn't end there. At the end of the show, host Kevin Hart announced that Chris Brown had actually won the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award -- not Rihanna and Drake.
BET's President of Music Programming and Specials, Stephen Hill, later took credit for the gaffe, telling his Twitter followers: "That BET Awards Viewers Choice mix-up was due to human error. And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to all affected."
