Marine life: There was an under-the-sea theme to Versace's show that translated into starfish and seahorses

Lindsey Wixson may have taken a tumble on the catwalk at Versace yesterday, but the label's creations still managed to steal the show.
Donatella Versace stayed true to her label's signature style with figure-hugging evening gowns and thigh-skimming party dresses, all oozing that trademark high-octane glamour.
There was an under-the-sea theme to the collection that played on the Italian fashion house's Medusa head symbol.

It translated into starfish and seahorses that appeared in prints, studs and as sequin embellishment.
A palette of cool blues and lilacs on white, with splashes of pale yellow and acid green gave the look an ethereal feel, though there was also plenty of black, which is always a safe bet for retail results.

The inspiration, Ms Versace said after the show, was of 'a mermaid arriving in New York on a scorching summer evening ready to conquer everything: people, the city and herself.'
She added that the collection also had to be empowering without being too aggressive: 'Women have to bring out their aggressive side because they still have to jostle to assert themselves in a man's world.

'I'm certainly not a romantic but I felt I had to soften this determination.'
Versace was one of the few shows at Milan Fashion Week  to attract any celebrities, with Heidi Klum on the front row.
It precedes an eventful weekend in the city with shows from Bottega Veneta, Emporio Armani, Just Cavalli and Emilio Pucci on Saturday, and Marni, Dolce & Gabbana and Missoni on Sunday.
